Iditarod note to non-Alaskans
Iditarod point of interest:
Keep an eye on Lance Mackey. Lance is a cancer survivor and long time dog musher. He just won the Yukon Quest for the third time in a row. (The Yukon Quest is the lesser known and more difficult of the two 1000+ mile dogsled races.) As of early this morning he was leading the Iditarod, and will undoubtedly be a contender.
If he can pull it off he would be the first person to win both the Iditarod and Yukon Quest in the same year.
This just in:
Perennial Iditarod winner Doug Swingley of Montana had to scratch and was flown to the hospital after an accident.
